So you've got a Shopify store and you want to use Subscribers? Good news! We can help you make it happen if you follow these simple steps:
STEP 0: PREREQUISITES
To install Subscribers.com you're going to need to use the Shopify "Edit Code" feature. It may look a little scary but we'll walk you through it!
STEP1: CHANGE YOUR SITE TO HTTP INSIDE OF SUBSCRIBERS.COM
This may sound weird but you will need to change your site to "HTTP" inside of Subscribers.com even though your site is an https site. We know... that's weird.... but trust us... It's a Shopify thing :)
This is an easy change though. Just make sure your logged into Subscribers and then go to this link. and change your "SITE URL" to HTTP
This little dropdown is what you need to toggle to HTTP: (NOT HTTPS)
It should look like this when you're done:
STEP 2: NAVIGATE TO THE "EDIT CODE" SECTION OF YOUR SHOPIFY SITE
Login into your Shopify site and navigate to the "Edit Code" section. Currently that's located by following this path:
Themes > Actions > Edit Code
For the visual types, here's what getting to this section looks like:
(Click on "Themes")
(Click that "Actions" button)
(Select "Edit Code")
STEP 3: PASTE THE SUBSCRIBERS CODE INTO YOUR SHOPIFY SITE
Now that you're inside the Edit Code section of your Shopify site, we're going to paste your subscribers code snippet into the proper file in a particular spot. First, from the list of files on the left-ish side of your screen, select "theme.liquid". There will be a bunch of files that kind of sound the same, but make sure to select theme.liquid.
After you click that file, scroll down to the bottom of the file and look for the </body> tag. It should be at or very near the bottom of the file.
Now paste the following code just BEFORE that </body> tag: (DON'T PRESS SAVE YET THOUGH!)
(The code should go right where this arrow is pointing - BEFORE the </body> tag)
STEP 4: BEFORE YOU PRESS "SAVE", UPDATE THE SITE ID IN THIS SCRIPT
The last thing we need to do is to update that part of the script that says "ENTER YOUR SITE ID HERE". Let's find your site ID.
If you're signed into Subscribers.com, you should be able to visit this url and find your "Site ID" near the top of the screen. Copy that Site ID and then add it into the code that you just pasted into your Shopify site where it says "ENTER SITE ID HERE". So you want to completely remove that "ENTER YOUR SITE ID HERE" code (BUT KEEP THE QUOTATION MARKS THERE - SUPER IMPORTANT) and replace those words (not the quotation marks) with your site ID that you coped from Subscribers.com
STEP 4: PRESS SAVE
Don't forget to press the handy "Save" button on the top of your Shopify site page before you close your Shopify site code editor:
(PRESS THAT SAVE BUTTON!)
STEP 5: VERIFY YOUR SITE IN SUBSCRIBERS
Once your script is saved in Shopify, navigate this URL in your Subscribers dashboard: and then press "Verify"
Uh oh! It says "Error retrieving the site: 404"
This is one of those "Shopify" things that we're just going to work around! Press the "override" button to move forward. It looks like this and is located right under the "Verify Installation" header text:
Click that and you're finally ready to roll. Your users will see the "Subscribe" prompt (But don't forget to style it up here!) and you can start sending pushes right away.
